‘My biggest cheerleader has always been my own mother, and celebrating her on Mother’s Day has always been one of my favorite times, said the author of A Great Party: Designing the Perfect Celebration.

To start the day right off, Bryan suggests breakfast in bed with a glamorous mom-worthy twist.

‘Put together a stunning tray, bringing in elements that are personal and have meaning between the two of you,’ he shares.

‘The gorgeous color depression glass water goblets that were a gift from her years ago or the multi-colored linen napkins the two of you picked out on your last trip together are sure to bring a shine to her eyes and kick off a wonderful conversation.’

Bryan recommends decorating the entire house with freshly picked flowers and pictures of the family – both old and new.

‘A custom menu card adds a touch of whimsy to the meal; our good friend Darcy Miller has the most adorable templates online that can easily be downloaded, printed, and colored to add to the décor.’

And the party doesn’t have to top there! As we shelter in place together, honor the woman who gave birth to you all day.

The premier event planner recommends learning a new song or dance and performing it for her after dinner.

End the day with mom’s favorite cake and a game of family charades.

VIRTUAL MOTHER’S DAY

‘The common theme for this Mother’s Day, whether you are celebrating virtually or in person, is to make time to create a connection with your mom through your shared experiences, and to create new ones for the future,’ said Bryan.

If you can’t celebrate mom in person, make a plan with your family to gather virtually and bring some of those in-person touches right along.

‘If time allows, post her a handwritten letter on beautiful monogrammed stationery, letting her know the schedule for your virtual Mother’s Day.’

You don’t have to be physically together to enjoy a nice meal. Have her favorite foods from a local restaurant delivered to her.

The world renowned party planner  recommends having each family member prepare their own table setting using items that have meaning to their mother, then sharing the stories behind the items while you eat.

To continue the family bonding ‘sign up for a virtual experience you can take with your mom, such as the cooking classes or wine tastings being offered through Airbnb.’
