  • Real Madrid are likely to sell the left-back with other strong options in defence

Everton have become favourites to land left-back Sergio Reguilon after placing an £18million bid for the Real Madrid defender.

The Toffee’s offer is expected to make other clubs perk up and ignite a flurry of activity for Reguilon, who was voted LaLiga’s best left-back last season.

The left-back played a crucial role on loan at Sevilla for the past campaign, where he helped them achieve a fourth-placed finish in the league and qualify for the Champions League.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking to fill the void left by Leighton Baines retirement and is also hoping to give more competition for Lucas Digne after making the £18m bid, via Sky Sports.

However, the Frenchman Digne could also be on his way out from Goodison Park, with Chelsea registering an interest him as Frank Lampard continues his hunt for a new left-back.

Whilst Madrid rare Reguilon highly, they already have plenty of strong options in the left-back position, such as Marcelo and Ferland Mendy.

Zinedine Zidane is hoping to raise around £180million in funds this summer, as he aims to clear out some of his squad to help deal with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sevilla are hopeful that they can keep Reguilon for another season but understand they will face heavy competition from teams looking to buy rather than loan.

Everton have until October 5 to get a deal over the line after the summer transfer window dates were altered due to the pandemic.
