Everything you need to know about your bra

Finding the right bra is one of the trickier drawbacks to being a woman – especially when every breast and body type is unique and unmatched in its semblance.

There are many factors which contribute to the perfect brasserie: size, fit, fabric and the absence or presence of underwire.

And experts have agreed there are a few simple rules every woman must follow before and after selecting the undergarments to protect their chests.

A few simple techniques such as never wearing the same bra two days in a row and getting sized by a professional are just some of the ‘breast’ tips, reports Whimn.

 GET PROFESSIONALLY FITTED

According to Triumph’s bra fitting expert Paula Svoboda, one of the biggest mistakes women make with their bras is avoiding a professional fitting.

Paula recommends letting an expert measure your cup size to find a bra that feels ‘like you’re not wearing one at all’ – and says the right one is not always cheap.

Warning signs for a poorly fitted bra, which can be rectified through a professional, include the back strap of the bra not sitting level with the front, fabric rubbing against your shoulder or straps falling down.

‘When going for a fitting be sure to wear your best non-padded bra and then let the stylist work their magic. The perfect  bra is one your feel most comfortable and confident in,’ Paula told the publication.

DON’T EVER WEAR THE WRONG SIZE

Women’s bodies can be as unpredictable as the weather and it is not uncommon for the female body to fluctuate in size over the years.

A large percentage of women tend to wear the wrong bra size – due to not being professionally fitted for years at a time – and this can be extremely uncomfortable, Paula warns.

‘Women often think they are the same size today, as they were last year, or even two or three years ago. A woman’s bust can change so much in a year – age, exercise, weight loss or gain all contribute to your bust size,’ she said.

If your bra is feeling too tight, too loose or the underwire is sticking into your ribs, it is probably time to head to the nearest department store for a re-fitting – and your breasts will be better for it.

NEVER WEAR THE SAME BRA TWO DAYS IN A ROW

It is the mantra of many women to continue wearing the same bra every day until it falls apart.

But experts say over-wearing the same lingerie every single day is wearing out your bra far earlier than need be.

According to Stuff, washing your bra or leaving it to ‘rest’ after an entire day’s use is the best way to ensure the elasticity will keep its bounce.

Having several well-fitting and fairly new bras in rotation will help to ensure you are never short of a perfect undergarment to match an outfit.

WASH AFTER THIRD USE

Along with ensuring the same bra hasn’t been stretched across your bosoms every day of the week, experts recommend washing every third wear.

This makes sure sweat and dirt doesn’t clog up the most important piece on material on your body – and encourages the use of several different bras.

But simply throwing the undergarments into the washing machine along with your sweaty socks won’t cut it.

Maintaining a bra’s original shape and look can be achieved through hand-washing or using a garment bag, which helps to protect the delicate material.
