Ex-Norwegian royal Ari Behn complained he was viewed as a ‘clown’ after divorce from Princess Martha

Tragic ex-Norwegian royal Ari Behn predicted he would ‘die alone’ and said he was left feeling like a ‘clown’ by his divorce months before his ex-wife Princess Martha Louise started dating Gwyneth Paltrow’s bisexual ‘spiritual mentor’.

The 47-year-old father-of-three also described himself as a ‘fool’ and ‘public actor’ in an interview a year before he took his own life on Christmas Day.

He was married to Princess Martha for 15 years before they separated in 2017. They had three daughters together called Maud, 16, Leah, 14, and Emma, 11.

She began dating shaman Durek Verrett, 44, who is Ms Paltrow’s mentor and ‘best friend’ in 2019 and the pair have since claimed they met in a past life when he was a Pharaoh and she was his Queen.

When Mr Behn promoted his last book Inferno, which reviewers described as ‘oozing with despair and sadness’, in 2018 he told VG: ‘I am yesterday’s news, even though the world has not yet been told.

‘I’m a clown, at worst. At best, I am a publicist and a public actor. For many I’m a fool.’

Inferno detailed his struggles with mental health, and said the author struggled with headaches, hallucinations and difficulty breathing.

The heartbreaking comments came nine years after a candid interview with Massiv magazine in 2009, where he said he would become ‘more and more lonely’ before dying alone.

‘I’m going to die without the company of anyone, but without being lonely and bitter,’ he said. ‘It’s like I’m never really able to connect with anyone.’

‘The only thing I fear is that I will not be able to complete the project I have started with my wife, namely to raise three wonderful daughters to become independent, wise individuals with critical empathy and a reality understanding that takes them far past Akersgata (Oslo’s city centre), to say it carefully.’

The former royal also revealed he had picked up the ‘bad habit’ of drinking from 1.30pm, and said he feared it would impact his ability to be a good father.

In a heartbreaking interview years earlier, Mr Behn had also predicted he would 'die alone' and gradually get more and more lonely (He is pictured with Princess Martha in Sweden in 2015, a year before the pair began divorce proceedings)

He also accused Kevin Spacey of touching him inappropriately at a Nobel Peace Prize banquet in Oslo held in 2007, during a radio interview ten years later.

‘We had a nice conversation, he was sat next to me,’ he told radio station P4.

‘After five minutes, he says ‘Hey, let’s go out and have a cigarette’ – and then he touched me right on the balls under the table.’

He revealed all he could say in response to the actor’s advances was ‘eh, maybe later’.

His ex-wife announced her new relationship with a shaman in May this year, although they are rumoured to have been seeing each other since at least February.

After the couple made their romantic debut on Instagram, they received backlash, especially given the Princess is fourth in line for the Norwegian throne.

At the time, she wrote: ‘He has made me realise that unconditional love actually exists here on this planet…And to those of you who feel the need to criticise: Hold your horses. It is not up to you to choose for me or to judge me. I don’t choose my man to satisfy any of you or the norms or boxes you have chosen in your mind for me to be in.’

The shaman has also claimed to be best friends with Gwyneth Paltrow in an interview with The Times.

He said the actress was an ‘amazing mentor’ and someone he could lean on while the media scrutinised his past relationships.

He also said the moment he introduced Gwyneth to his new girlfriend they were ‘like sisters’.

‘She’s always asked me, “when are you going to settle down and meet someone?”. I won’t share anyone with her unless it’s the one.’

Princess Martha gushed over ‘new friend’ Ms Paltrow in an Instagram post in July this year, praising the Hollywood A-lister’s ‘wisdom, strength and clear vision’.

After meeting at Hamptons, near New York, she also said it was a ‘gift’ and that Ms Paltrow’s ‘soft personality and great sense of humour’ was inspiring.

Mr Behn had a turbulent relationship with the Norwegian media.

When he married Princess Martha in 2002 in a lavish ceremony at the historic Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim he was criticised for being a self-styled Bohemian author, as opposed to a traditional royal partner.

The pair tried to escape media attention, reportedly moving to London together with their children in 2012, before later returning to Norway.

Announcing divorce proceedings four years later, Princess Martha said: ‘We have, like so many others, grown apart from one another, to places we no longer meet like we did before.

‘We have tried everything over a long period of time, and when we still can’t meet where we did before, it’s impossible for us to continue.’
