Former Shortland Street star Will Alexander has entered day 12 of his pro-Palestine hunger strike.

The actor has been on a zero-calorie diet and is only consuming water as a call for action from the New Zealand Government to support Palestinian refugees.

He has lost 10 kilograms and has vowed to continue to strike until the government ‘stops supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza’.

Will revealed he has been feeling ‘waves of exhaustion’, low energy and dizziness.

He is demanding the government withdraw New Zealand troops from the Red Sea,  and double humanitarian funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

‘While I would really prefer not to be doing something like this in order to have my voice heard, this feels right to me,’ he told The Press.

‘I know there are a lot of people that are worried about me, but if this is the most concerning thing for them after seven months of genocide then they’re not paying attention.’

Will isn’t the first celebrity to go on a hunger strike.

In November, Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon went on a hunger strike with a group of five other US politicians in a bid to trigger a lasting Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

Cynthia, who is the mother of two Jewish children with her ex-husband, demanded that President Joe Biden call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The actress and political activist said she would take part in the hunger strike for two of the five planned days, before she returned to New York for work.
