Ex-soldier found not guilty of murder over stabbing death

A not guilty verdict handed down to a former soldier who stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her new partner to death has left the woman’s mother outraged.

Christopher Carter walked free from Brisbane Supreme Court last month after saying he killed Renee Kuch and Corey Croft in self defence.

Renee’s grieving mother Joanne is aghast at the jury’s decision, and believes they were influenced by Croft’s paedophile past and Kuch’s drinking problem.

Ms Kuch claimed her daughter was unaware Croft was a convicted paedophile, and said Renee was a good mother despite her binge drinking.

She questioned how the jury could have freed Carter even though he stabbed Renee 10 times and Croft five times, A Current Affair reported.

‘We’ve got to get some sort of justice, no matter what. How can it be self defence?’ asked Joanne.

‘[After the verdict] I just burst into tears and I just said this can’t be right, it cannot be right,’ she said.

‘He didn’t even get manslaughter. How can that be?’

Carter spent two years in jail before last month’s decision, and the former soldier had initially lied to police about the killings.

Kuch and Croft’s son, now eight-years-old, was present at the time of the stabbings, having been left at the home by Carter.

Joanne said the boy is now suffering from anger management problems and ADHD, and has separation anxiety.

Carter had two children with Renee Kuch from a previous relationship.
