EXCLUSIVE: Hugh Sheridan gets into the festive spirit at the premiere of his new Christmas film Holiday Twist in Los Angeles

Hugh Sheridan is back to sprinkle some Christmas magic with his new film, Holiday Twist, a delightful addition to this year’s holiday movie lineup.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia this week, the Australian actor, 38, opened up about his healing hiatus, his holiday favourites, and the joy of the festive season.

After a challenging period following his father’s death, Hugh took a well deserved break to Tel Aviv, only to have his trip cut short when Hamas attacked Israel.

The trip was not just about respite but also about re-evaluation, something he hadn’t had the chance to do since diving into work straight out of university.

‘I never did a gap year or anything. I’m always sort of working,’ Hugh explained.

‘I just wanted to have some time to just not know where I’m going and to have a bit of fun… It was great. It was really interesting,’ he shared.

‘It was exhausting and I’m glad that I did it. But at the same time, I probably should have just done it when I was 18,’ he laughed, before adding that he had no regrets.

A fan of festive films himself, the Packed to the Rafters star cited Home Alone and The Grinch as two of his favourites, noting their timeless humour.

‘I also still love Love Actually, but it’s sort of, it’s sort of dated a bit. I’ve noticed when I watched it last year,’ he said.

Sheridan admitted that he goes to lengths to preserve the myth of Santa Claus for his nieces and nephews.

‘I’m trying to convince my nieces and nephews that he’s definitely real and that everyone else is lying, as long as I can,’ he laughs.

During the chat the actor humorously recounted the ‘cringe’ moment of receiving a re-gifted item he had originally given.

‘I know someone accidentally gave me something that I’d given them before, that’s the worst,’ he explained.

‘They actually re-gifted it back to the person that gave it to them, but without knowing. Oh, that’s definitely cringe. I’m not going to say who or what it was. They’ll know.’

Elsewhere, Sheridan praises working with actress Kelly Stables.

‘Kelly was brilliant. She was just great,’ he recalled. ‘You know, a real funny actress and just a solid human.’

‘As far as working with leading ladies, sometimes they’re challenging, but sometimes they’re really, really good.’

Holiday Twist is scheduled for release in the US from December 1. An Australian date is yet to be announced.
