If you use Instagram, it’s likely your feed has been full of celebrities showing off their lip gloss phone cases.
Stars including Molly-Mae Hague, Rochelle Humes, and Kendall Jenner all use them, while TikTok is awash with influencers promoting the cases.
The original design was unveiled back in February by Hailey Bieber’s brand, Rhode, and features a groove that fits a lip gloss.
Since then, hundreds of copycat designs have appeared online – with even Heinz and O2 jumping on the bandwagon.
While the design might look sleek and trendy, experts have issued an urgent warning about using the case on your phone.
According to experts from Compare and Recycle, the design prioritises sleekness over robust protection.
What’s more, the case can leave your smartphone vulnerable to liquid damage, according to the experts.
‘For better protection, it’s recommended to use a separate, durable phone case and a small cosmetic pouch for your lip gloss, ensuring that both your phone and accessories are safe and secure,’ the experts said.

While the design might look sleek and trend, experts have issued an urgent warning about using the case on your phone
Rhode first unveiled the phone case to the world back in February, and quickly sold out.
‘A silicone, bubble case for your phone that keeps your lip on hand,’ it describes the case on its website.
‘Our design has a silky, soft touch feel and a puffy back for easy gripping.
‘Compatible with select iPhone models and your favorite Peptide Lip Treatment or Tint.’
Unfortunately, experts from Compare and Recycle say that these phone cases do not offer sufficient protection.
‘Adding a compartment for lip gloss compromises the case’s structure, often creating thinner or weaker areas to make room for the storage,’ they explained.
‘The design sacrifices protective materials and shock-absorbing elements to accommodate the lip gloss holder, so the phone is more vulnerable to damage from drops or impacts, particularly on the side with the compartment.’
What’s more, keeping a lip gloss in the groove can increase the risk of liquid seeping into your smartphone.

‘Liquid or cream lip glosses could leak or smear onto the phone, potentially damaging buttons, ports, or speakers,’ the experts added.
Based on the findings, the experts are urging Britons to opt for high-quality, protective smartphone accessories.
‘The average difference in resale value between a working and broken smartphone is £140,’ they added.
‘So, it can put you significantly out of pocket if you opt for phone accessories that could damage your device.
‘Some accessories are beneficial, so we recommend you always opt for high-quality accessories and attach them to phone cases where possible rather than directly onto your handset.’
MailOnline has contacted Rhode for comment.
