Crystal Palace fans were seen helping to clear up rubbish in central London following chaotic scenes before the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Supporters helped to clear litter and debris, including beer bottles and drinks cans, amid a carnival atmosphere around Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square.

It comes following calls from some Eagles fans to make sure no litter was left before making the trip to Wembley from the centre of the capital.

One fan wrote on Friday night: ‘#CPFC fans – can people make an effort to pack a bin liner before leaving home and heading to Covent Garden? The bins nearby will quickly overflow.

‘There was a small amount of litter left after the SF – let’s show everyone that Palace fans do it best. Please spread the word!’

On Saturday, many fans answered the call-to-arms before the showpiece event at Wembley to make sure no rubbish was left behind.

It preceded Palace’s first FA Cup Final since 2016, where they came out on the losing side against Manchester United, then managed by Louis van Gaal.

Oliver Glasner’s team have got past Stockport County, Doncaster Rovers, Millwall, Fulham and Aston Villa to have another shot at a first major trophy in their history.

But they will have to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who are appearing in their third successive final having played arch-rivals Manchester United in each of the previous two finals.

The Citizens are bidding for a fourth FA Cup win in 14 years, having lifted the iconic trophy in 2011, 2019 and 2023.

Fortunately for Palace, this City outfit is a far cry from the dominant force in the Premier League to have won four successive titles under Guardiola.

Following a mixed season that has been marred by a poor run of results and several injuries, City face a titanic battle to secure Champions League football next season.

For now though, all eyes will be on Wembley, where their fans will be desperate for another piece of silverware.
