Facebook users are in a frenzy after many attempted to log on today only to find the site is down.
The outage appears to be affecting users around the world, with thousands of reports within the last hour alone.
Frustrated Facebook users have since taken to Twitter to express their gripes.
A live outage map shows outage hotspots across the United States, with the northeast hit particularly hard. Facebook is also down for users along the West Coast, in Mexico, and in parts of South America.
According to DownDetector, the issue appears to have started just before 1 p.m. (ET).

Parts of Europe also appear to be affected by the outage, with reports that Facebook is down coming primarily from the UK and Germany.
There have also been scattered reports in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
On Twitter, Facebook users checked in to see if the problem was affecting others.
‘When Facebook goes down, i go to twitter to see if it is the real deal. Yes, I’m not the only one with #facebookdown,’ one Twitter user wrote.
Another tweeted: ‘Facebook is not working properly right now.’
More than 1,800 Facebook users reported that the site was down around 1 pm.
The majority (43%) have indicated they’re experiencing a ‘total blackout,’ while many others say the issue stems from logging on.
It appears the problem is affecting both desktop and app users, with 17 percent reporting they’ve had trouble with the app today.
