‘Fake’ Uluru goes up in flames at Leyland Brothers World theme park in Australia

The Ayers Rock Roadhouse  at the site of the old Leyland Brothers World theme park is on fire, just metres away from the petrol station.

Footage has emerged of the Uluru replica burning at North Arm Cove on the Pacific Highway, north of Newcastle in New South Wales.

NSW Rural Fire Service said the structure is ‘completely alight’ and fire crews were protecting nearby fuel storage facilities on site.

A spokesperson for the fire service told Daily Mail Australia the fire started at 7.15pm and 18 fire crews were still on site Tuesday night.

The iconic location is a popular destination for school camps, attended by thousands of students each year.

The Great Aussie Bush Camp, in a Facebook post, confirmed the roadhouse was on fire but said there were no students on site.

‘News is reporting that the Ayres Rock Roadhouse at Tea Gardens has caught fire, this is correct,’ the post said.

‘There are no students onsite at our Tea Gardens centre at this time and the property is untouched by the fire.

‘It was a mighty big fire to tell a camp story around all the same.’

A social media post of the blaze received a large number of reactions, including people reminiscing about the theme park and camp.

‘Remember the Great Aussie Bush Camp’, one person said, while another commented: ‘remember Leyland Brothers world and the rock?’

Another person said: ‘this is where the kids are going.’
