Best-selling author Jodi Picoult has finally revealed the correct way to pronounce her name – after years of hearing her fans say the moniker incorrectly.
Jodi, 56, who is best known for her novel My Sister’s Keeper, explained in a recent TikTok video that she only realized how many people were failing to use the right pronunciation after she joined the social media app and heard other users trying – and failing – to say her name properly.
So, she decided to finally set the record straight in a tongue-in-cheek video detailing the many incorrect versions she has heard – while finally explaining exactly how to say her surname.
She shocked many of her dedicated readers who couldn’t contain their surprise at learning they had been saying her name wrong all this time.

Jodi penned some of her best work and took to the video-sharing platform to share a hilarious breakdown of how you should be saying her last name
The viral video amassed 947,000 views and was paired with the caption, ‘Clearing a couple things up.’
She began by noting that since she joined the video-sharing platform fans had been discussing how to correctly say her name.
The author said: ‘Hey there, it’s Jodi. I hear that since I joined TikTok, there has been a little bit of discussion about how to pronounce my name.
‘You all get Jodi right, but you’re not too sure about the last half of it.’
With props, captions, and photos to aid in her explanation, Jodi revealed that her last name is pronounced Pico, as in ‘Pico de Gallo.’
‘Well, it’s Jodi PICO. As in, Pico de Gallo,’ she said as she held up a bottle of Pico de Gallo.
Then, the author – who has written many novels throughout the years, including Nineteen Minutes and The Pact – poked fun at all the wrong pronunciations of her last name.
While donning a peacoat, she said, ‘It’s not Jodi Pea-coat.’

Then, she hilariously showed the camera a photo of a horse wearing a peacoat.
She added: ‘It’s not Jodi Pea-colt-in-a-pea-coat.’
Jodie held up the last photo, which showed a woman in a forest surrounded by people wearing white, and said, ‘It’s not Jodi Pea-Cult.’
