A family of five is being brutally mocked online after they were spotted each riding through the airport on a pair of $500 ‘Segway shoes’ – with the internet branding them ‘lazy’ and ’embarrassing’ for choosing not to walk.
A woman named Jamie, who goes by the username @theflylifeofjamie online, saw the family making their way through the airport on the ‘electric roller skates,’ and took a video of them – which she then uploaded to TikTok.
The family was later identified as the Petersons – an American Bluegrass family band from Branson, Missouri, made up of parents Karen, 63, and Jon, 64, and their kids Katie, 32, Ellen, 30, Matt, 27, and Julianne, 21.
Only five of the six family members were featured in the video, and it appears that Jon was not in attendance.
They each each wore a pair of Ninebot by Segway Drift W1 Electric Roller Skates Hovershoes – which sell for $470 each on Amazon – as they headed to their gate for a flight, and they are now being mercilessly ridiculed for their choice of transportation.

The high-tech shoes are just like the widely popular Hoverboard – often used by mall cops – however, instead of having one long platform for the passenger to stand on, it comes with two smaller ones – one for each foot.
They were designed by Segway and can reach speeds of up to 12km per hour, according to the online description – which also states that the hovershoes offer 45 minutes of riding time when fully charged.

However, the high-tech accessory did not go down well with critics on TikTok, who were quick to hit out at the family after Jamie posted a video of them gliding around the airport, and even gliding over to a Starbucks at one point in order to dispose of some trash.
‘In the airport with $500 Segway shoes,’ Jamie wrote in the clip, which showed all five of the family members moving around the airport on the expensive Hovershoes.
The TikTok, which has now been viewed more than two million times, sparked major backlash from viewers – who called it ‘humiliating’ and ‘ridiculous’ that the family chose not to walk through the airport on foot.
Many people also claimed that the video is a prime example of how lazy younger generations have become, with some accusing Gen-Z in particular of partaking in lazy behavior.

However, some people did defend the Petersons, with one writing, ‘Why are people hating? It’s not embarrassing. Looks kinda fun’
‘The ridiculousness of our future generation right there…’ one person wrote.
‘So now… are we too lazy to even walk around?’ asked another. ‘Thank goodness I won’t be here for future generations.’
Someone else said: ‘Oh, the laziness,’ while another joked: ‘Those are people that I silently judge.’
‘Yeah, since being in your 20s and walking is oh so hard,’ joked a fourth TikTok user.
A different one added: ‘OK, Gen Z is really out of control.’
‘I’m so embarrassed for them and I don’t know why,’ read another comment.
Others said, ‘This is so humiliating,’ and, ‘Those are the people that I silently judge.’
Another person compared the video of the Petersons’ hoverboarding shoes to a scene from the Disney animated movie Wall-E, which is set in a future time when humans have abandoned Earth and spend their days being transported around a space station in hovering chairs so that they never have to walk or exercise.

They received a lot of attention in 2015, after Ellen competed in the singing competition show American Idol, where she placed in the top 48.
