Family of missing entrepreneur’s wife fear she may have been murdered after disappearing

The mother-of-two who mysteriously went missing nearly three months ago could have been murdered, according to a close family member.

Madeline Bigatton was captured on CCTV getting into her car in the driveway of her family home at Carss Park, in Sydney’s south, on the morning of March 25.

The 48-year-old then dropped her daughter at a friend’s house nearby, and is believed to have driven up to Kurnell, where her black Kia Sorento was found parked later that night.

A relative close to Mrs Bigatton said the family considered a plethora of explanations for her disappearance, including suicide, murder, or that she had run away, news.com.au reported.

The wife of international Bitcoin entrepreneur John may have even taken matters into her own hands to escape crushing financial trouble, the relative also suggested.

The missing mother reportedly told a neighbour the family was low on money before she disappeared, but other sources suggested the opposite was true.

The neighbour was collecting money for the National Heart Foundation when she visited her Erang Street mansion, to be told ‘We don’t have a cent to spare.’

They bought the property in 2006 and knocked down an old brick home to build a two-storey mansion with multiple wings.

As recently as a month ago, the couple’s oldest daughter posted on Instagram about expensive hotels and overseas holidays, as well as new family cars bought last year.

Mrs Bigatton was understood to have undergone treatment for cancer before she went missing.

Her husband was the Australian director of now defunct cryptocurrency exchange platform ‘Bitconnect’.

Publicly available files show he joined the company in September last year.

Just months after having risen rapidly to be worth more than AUD$620 per coin, the company suddenly shut down in January.

On its website it cited having received two cease and desist letters from different U.S states and ongoing ‘bad press’ as the reasons for ending operations.

Following Bitconnect’s closure, the price of Bitconnect Coin has dropped to just over AUD60cents.

Mrs Bigatton’s relative said family and friends held a memorial for her in early May, in a bid to remember her and pay tribute, despite not knowing what happened to her.

‘She was just so loved, the church was completely packed out,’ he said.

‘It’s just so not like Madeline (to go missing). She was brought up in cotton wool, she was one of those real sort of good girls who never put a foot wrong her whole life.

‘We hope she’s out there somewhere, but we are all just trying to connect all the dots together to work out what happened.’

An extensive search of the Kurnell area was conducted after her disappearance, with rescue helicopters, Marine Area Command and the Dog Unit involved.

Mrs Bigatton is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm to 170cm tall, of a slim build, and with shoulder length brown hair.

She was last seen in the CCTV footage wearing a khaki green singlet, three-quarter pants, and was carrying a black and white bag.

Police are hoping to speak to two men of Indian appearance who reportedly picked up Mrs Bigatton’s car keys the day after she went missing.
