Fan-made Harry Potter prequel released on YouTube

The second installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise is not set for release until November.

But loyal fans had their Harry Potter cravings satisfied on Sunday, as a short fan-made film titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir was posted on YouTube.

The 52-minute long project, produced by Tryangle Films, follows the villain in his youth as Tom Riddle, and his journey to evil – told through a dramatic police investigation.

It’s back: Loyal fans had their Harry Potter cravings satisfied on Sunday, as a short fan-made film titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir was posted on YouTube

The short film follows the story of Grisha MacLaggen, and her quest to uncover the truth about Tom Riddle, who became the most evil wizard in existence.

The fictional character has been on the hunt for Tom for a number of months, after becoming convinced he was involved in the death of a Hufflepuff relative.

The film begins with Grisha, who is an heir of Hogwarts founder Godric Gryffindor, being arrested and interrogated by a fierce officer, and the story is told through a series of flashbacks during their meeting.

According to the Verge, Tryangle Films, consisting of a number of devoted Harry Potter fans, decided to make the film after a re-reading of the Half Blood Prince, which caused them to wonder how Tom Riddle earned such a terrible reputation.

However, the project has been many months in the making as Warner Bros., the producers of both the original and Fantastic Beasts franchises, initially blocked it from being produced.

Yet, Tryangle came to an agreement with the producers late last year, which allowed them to create the movie for the video-streaming site if they declared it as a fan project.

However, other Harry Potter followers took issue with the film, and claimed the characters were not realistic to J.K. Rowling’s famous wizarding world.

One wrote: ‘I have MANY PROBLEMS with this Origins of the Heir fan film’ as another added: ‘Watched ‘voldemort origins of the heir’ and it was a complete was waste of time.’

A further user wrote in disappointment: ‘Didn’t really like ‘Voldemort: Origins Of The Heir’. It’s just not the complete Tom Riddle story and the extra characters where not in the books or movies…’

The short film no doubt satisfied the cravings of Harry Potter super fans, ahead of the release of Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald in November.

The highly-anticipated sequel – which will follow on from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which hit cinemas last Christmas – will be the first in the five-film series to introduce iconic character Albus Dumbledore as a young man.

The flick will see the Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald [Johnny Depp] escaping from the Magical Congress of the United States of America, and plot to raise pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings.

In order to stop him and his plans, a young Dumbledore [Jude Law] enlists the help of Magizoologist Newt Scamander [Eddie Redmayne, returning from Fantastic Beasts 1] who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.
