‘Our skin colour is not a costume you can put on’: Revellers who wore blackface and dressed as Snoop Dogg and Stevie Wonder for a 21st party are slammed over their ‘racist’ outfits

  • Social media users called them out for the offensive and racist costumes 

Revellers at a fancy-dress party have been blasted as ‘racist’ and ‘disgusting’ for dressing up as terrorists and wearing blackface to pose as Snoop Dogg and Stevie Wonder.

The joint 50th and 21st party at a home in Wollongong, south of Sydney, on Friday night saw attendees don offensive costumes.

One woman covered herself in black body paint and wore gangsta-style clothing to pose as African American rapper Snoop Dogg.

‘It’s tha muthaf**kin DO double G,’ her Instagram caption read.

The controversial costume garnered furious backlash from social media users calling her out for ignorance and racism over the use of blackface.

A party-goer dressed as Stevie Wonder pretended to be blind and walked around with a cane

At one point the man played a keyboard to get into character

Another reveller also went in head-to-toe blackface and donned a cane, pretending to be blind African American singer Stevie Wonder

‘You’re very very very ugly for this!,’ one person commented.

‘This has got to be a fu**king joke right?,’ said another. 

‘There’s cultural appropriation then there’s plain disrespect. What the f**k do you think ur doing,’ another outraged Instagram user wrote.

Others took the opportunity to educate the woman about why blackface is racist.

‘Historically it was used by racist whites to distort black features and mock their character, identity and looks. What you are doing is disgusting,’ a woman wrote.

‘This is so f**king wrong,’ said another. 

‘Blackface is so offensive. Our skin colour is not a costume you can put on and take off whenever you please.’

But others found the questionable costume to be humourous, and applauded the woman for the ‘hilarious’ get-up.

Another reveller also went in head-to-toe blackface and donned a cane, pretending to be blind African American singer Stevie Wonder.

He was filmed was filmed walking around slowly using the cane, while a man behind the camera laughed hysterically at the performance.  

But the politically incorrect costumes didn’t end there. 

Another attendee dressed as a Muslim terrorist, wearing a traditional thobe, scull cap and fake monobrow while waving an American flag.
