Fans accuse Commonwealth Games performers Ricki-Lee Coulter and Christine Anu of lip syncing

Some of Australia’s greatest musical talent were tasked with kicking off the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast with show-stopping performances.

But on Wednesday night, many viewers took to social media to question whether the Opening Ceremony performances were actually live.

Ricki-Lee Coulter and Christine Anu were among the artists in the line of fire as Twitter users questioned if they were singing in real-time, while Delta Goodrem survived relatively unscathed by criticism.

Former Australian Idol songstress Ricki-Lee was faced with much of the backlash, with a number of viewers slamming her performance.

‘There’s no f**kin way Ricki Lee or whatever her name is isn’t lip syncing.’  one person complained.

‘Ricki lee is Miming. Whyyyy’  someone else commented, while another incredulous viewer questioned: ‘Is Ricki Lee seriously lip syncing???’

Another Commonwealth Games fan sarcastically added: ‘Ricki Lee, it is time to LIP SYNC FOR YOUR LIFE.’

A further tweet noted the lack of British royalty on the small-screen, writing:  Is Prince Charles just standing to the side while Channel 7 cuts to ads and Ricki Lee lip syncs a random song in the sand?’

But it wasn’t just Ricki-Lee who was accused of the singing sin, with Christine Anu also getting panned online.

‘Christine Anu’s lip syncing reminded me of a Bruce Lee movie,’  wrote one social media user.

Summing up the sentiment, someone else commented on the performances overall, writing: ‘That “no lip-syncing” promise doesn’t look too clever now, does it? #CommonwealthGames’

While Ricki-Lee and Christine were condemned, Delta Goodrem didn’t appear to meet the same fate.

Most tweets regarding her performance appeared to be complimentary in nature.

‘I believe Delta’s singing live but not those back-up singers just then. Words were finished but they were still lip-syncing,’ tweeted one person.

Another added: ‘Delta not lip syncing like Ricki Lee and the others before. She can actually sing live.’

An additional tweet read: ‘DELTA!! Woah What a performance and what a beautiful song.’
