Fans bored with Cilic vs Edmund Australian Open semi-final

Tennis fans bemoaned the Australian Open semi-final between Marin Cilic and Kyle Edmund, calling it the most boring game of the tournament.

The Croatian’s convincing 6-2, 7-6, 5-2 straight-sets victory was an anti-climax after much harder-fought games earlier on and fans were not impressed.

Many viewers found Cilic’s playing style ‘boring’ to watch as he stayed at the baseline hitting the same power shots – with little variety or flair.

‘I can’t even remember the last time I watched such a disappointing slam semifinal,’ one fan wrote online.

They were also unhappy about how long the players too between points wiping themselves down and bouncing the ball before serve.

‘Cilic going to win this by boring Edmund to death. How many bounces before he serves?’ one fan wrote on social media.

‘This is an incredibly boring tennis match. No drop shots, no serve volley, just power tennis, ultra short points and double backhands from the baseline. Yawn!’ a third said.

The match was also not competitive with Cilic blitzing through the first set and long rallies few and far between as he overwhelmed his opponent.

Fans were even more disappointed as the match followed a hard-fought epic women’s semi-final between Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber.

That duel was dubbed one of the best of the Open and many believed it should have been played in prime time instead of the men’s match.

‘Should have had the woman’s sf a night game on the main stage. This game is lacking entertainment. Even if Edmund was winning it’ll still be a boring game tbh,’ one fan wrote.

‘Totally one sided. Boring. Just hope tomorrow’s match will be better,’ another wrote.

‘Cilic… boring. Recipe for switching TV off or change channel,’ a third said.

Nadal was particularly missed as he had to withdraw injured from his quarter final match with Cilic, denying him the chance at another showdown with Roger Federer.

‘Watching this Cilic match and am really angry that Nadal retired from the game smh,’ one disappointed fan wrote.

The Swiss master will play unseeded South Korean Hyeon Chung, who knocked over former champion Novak Djokovic in the fourth round, the decide Cilic’s opponent.
