Cheryl is also reportedly in ‘final talks’ for a return to the judging panel for The X Factor 2018, replacingNicole Scherzinger.
A source told The Sun that producers are only waiting to begin official contract negotiations with the singer while they made arrangements for the coming series’ schedule.
Cheryl has reportedly been in talks to return to the show for some time, as bosses plan to make drastic changes to the new series in a bid to boost popularity.
The source said: ‘Cheryl is the top choice and she is keen to come on board.
‘It is very likely there will be changes in that department from last year, as it is widely felt that last year’s series wasn’t ideally placed to optimise ratings. It would be a huge shock if it didn’t happen.’
Representatives for Cheryl, Nicole and The X Factor have been contacted for comment.
She’s out! The source said that it was looking less likely that Nicole would be returning, but nothing had been confirmed
Talks about the coming series will reportedly take place before Simon Cowell jets to America to film the new series of America’s Got Talent, according to The Sun.
Bosses will also reportedly be on a mission to change up the show’s format to entice viewers, including the number of live shows and whether the auditions will be room or arena-based.
The reports come after host Dermot O’Leary appeared to confirm in January that Cheryl’s return to the panel was a done deal, telling Metro: ‘Cheryl’s going to come back.’

She told The Sunday Mirror: ‘Simon [Cowell] is so f****** last minute we know in the same month that he announces it. We’ll see what happens.’
So far Simon, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh have all signed contracts to return in 2018, with Louis telling The Radio Times: ‘I’m getting paid to do something I love. I’m signed for next year already, so is Sharon.
