‘All hail prophet Wenger’: Fans praise former Arsenal manager after he predicted Presnel Kimpembe would be a weak link for PSG against Man United in Champions League… before defender went on to concede last minute penalty
- Manchester United secured a dramatic comeback win over PSG on Wednesday
- Presnel Kimpembe gave away a last minute penalty which sent United through
- Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger predicted Kimpembe to be a risky choice
Manchester United fans were in dream land on Wednesday night after pulling off a historic comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
But fans have also been praising former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for a prediction he made a few weeks ago, before the first tie.
He called Presnel Kimpembe a ‘risky’ choice for defence, saying he ‘made too many fouls.’ Sure enough, it was Kimpembe that gave away the last minute penalty which sent United through to the next round.

Speaking on beIN Sports before the game at Old Trafford, Wenger said ‘I would say [PSG boss Thomas Tuchel] made two important decisions.
‘The first one is not to play Marquinhos at the back, and play Kimpembe. Kimpembe recently had not been convincing in this position because he was too impulsive, made too many fouls.’
There was controversy in the final minutes of the second leg in Paris as the ball struck Kimpembe’s arm in the penalty area. The referee originally gave a corner, before VAR came into play.

Kimpembe jumped into the air, turned his back on the ball, and after some deliberation the referee deemed he had intentionally made his body bigger to stop the ball.
PSG complaints fell on deaf ears as Rashford stepped up to take a fantastic penalty and bring the tie level and give United the lead on away goals.
‘It is a little risk, because recently Kimpembe has not been convincing. He’s a very promising defender, but since January, Paris Saint-Germain have not convinced.’
Fans on social media have been hailing Wenger’s prediction since the referee blew for full time.
‘Wenger did say Kimpembe was a weak link. All hail prophet Wenger,’ said one Twitter user.
‘Footballing GENIUS,’ exclaimed another, with someone else saying ‘he saw the future.’
