Fans outraged after Valeriy Bondar escapes a red card for ‘wiping out’ Scotland star Che Adams

‘This isn’t red because he’s the last man. It’s red because it’s assault!’ Pundits and fans outraged after Ukraine defender Valeriy Bondar escapes a red card for ‘wiping out’ Scotland star Che Adams during UEFA Nations League clash

Scottish football pundit Michael Stewart joined outraged fans in slamming the decision not to send off Valeriy Bondar for ‘wiping out’ Scotland star Che Adams.

The Ukraine defender poleaxed the striker towards the end of the first-half but avoided being sent off and was shown a yellow card by the referee.

The suggestion from the official appeared to be that Bondar was not last man and he had not prevented a goalscoring opportunity.

However, fans branded it assault as Bondar had no intention of playing the ball.

And former Hearts and Hibs midfielder Stewart was adamant that the 23-year-old should have seen red due to the force in which he collided with Adams.

Stewart told Premier Sports: ‘That tackle I think perhaps justifies a red card.

‘He absolutely wipes Che Adams out there. Of course he’ll be thinking there’s defenders there who are helping out to produce just a yellow card, but you watch Bondar here. He absolutely wipes him out.

‘That to me is a red card.’
