‘Virgil off and deservedly so, he’s been poor’: Fans react on social media as Virgil van Dijk is dragged off at half-time by Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool being run ragged by Brentford before the break

Fans on social media have reacted to Virgil van Dijk being dragged off at half-time by Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool were struggling against a dominant Brentford and found themselves 2-0 down at the half-time interval – before eventually losing 3-1.

Fans on social media have said that the German manager was right to take Van Dijk off – following a ‘poor’ performance in the first 45. However, it looks like the 31-year-old was withdrawn with an injury rather than performance-related reasons.

One fan said: ‘Virgil was poor 1st half so no surprise he is taken off.’

This seemed to be a common theme amongst much of social media and another fan said: ‘Virgil off and deservedly so, he’s been poor.’

The Holland defender has been out of sorts recently and this continued in the first-half against Brentford.

The centre-back was caught napping when a ball behind the defence was played into Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo – which eventually led to the opening goal of the game.

Another fan added: ‘No complaints from me about Virgil going off. Tsimikas and Elliott both shocking. Klopp could’ve taken off anyone to be honest so bad.’
