Fans share shock after discovering famous father of ‘so hot’ Serpent Queen

With his devilish good looks and royal plots, he’s come to rule the small screen in The Serpent Queen.

But Stanley Morgan, who stars as the young Duke of Anjou in the period drama, knows a thing or two about family dynasties.

For the 27-year-old is the son of TV presenter Piers Morgan – much to the bewilderment of his fans.

Morgan has been praised for his performance in The Serpent Queen, which streams on MGM+ and Amazon Prime.

One fan wrote on social media: ‘Anjou is my favourite character on this show and the actor who plays him is so hot. He steals every scene he’s in.’

But they added: ‘Bit of a shocker to find out who his dad is.’

Another posted: ‘I’ve been watching The Serpent Queen and thinking the Duke d’Anjou was cute so I googled him. Turns out he’s Piers Morgan’s son. Horrified. Still would but…’

The show, which also stars Samantha Morton and Minnie Driver, has received an unprecedented 100 per cent rating from critics on the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Bafta winner Ms Morton plays Italian noblewoman Catherine de Medici who married French King Henry II and ruled France from 1547 to 1559.

She was nicknamed The Serpent Queen because of her brutality in dispatching any rivals to three of her sons, who ruled France for the 30 years after her husband’s death.

Ms Driver plays Queen Elizabeth I and shares several scenes with Morgan, prompting one fan to say ‘he not only holds his own with legends like Samantha Morton and Minnie Driver, he steals scenes from them’.

Other stars include French actress Ludivine Sagnier, who plays Henry’s influential mistress Diane de Poitiers.

Morgan stars as one of Catherine de Medici’s sons in the show’s second season, which ended last month.

In the series finale, his character spearheads a wedding massacre – which sets him up to become King Henry III.

While a third season has yet to be confirmed, a Hollywood producer said: ‘The show has been a critical and commercial hit so the announcement of season three should come any day.

‘Stanley Morgan is the name on everyone’s lips in Hollywood. It’s a breakthrough role and one that has people talking about him being the next big thing.’

Morgan, who has previously starred in the film comedy Argylle, wrote on Instagram this week: ‘I’m sure I’ll wake up and this will all have been a dream but that in itself will have been more than enough.’

He is the second of Morgan’s three sons with his first wife Marion Shalloe.

The presenter, who also has a 12-year-old daughter with second wife Celia Walden, previously praised his son for getting the role, writing on social media: ‘Congrats Stanley Morgan – no need to prep for this character…’
