Fast-food Manchester restaurant leaves meals for homeless

A fast-food restaurant that left free meals for the homeless outside its doors have been forced to take them directly to shelters after hungry revellers tucked in to the gifts.

Bosu Body Bar in Manchester specialises in selling healthy fast-food boxes that last up to 72 hours.

Instead of throwing away the leftovers like most restaurants, the team recently started placing the food outside its doors after noticing a sharp rise in people sleeping rough.

This simple act of kindness on the streets of Manchester went viral after the restaurant left food out for the homeless

Siblings Sarah and Michael Beck and business partners Oliver Drummond and Josef Ramzi-Faddoul have now launched The Bosu Project to help people in need by giving away any leftover food at the end of the day.

Their simple act of kindness has gone viral after they posted a picture of some takeaway bags outside the Cross Street shop.

But they’ve had to start giving the leftover food to homeless charities and shelters, rather than leaving it outside as some hungry passers-by were helping themselves to the goods.

The restaurant wrote on Facebook: ‘When we close the doors for the day, we promise to leave bags outside full of tasty food.

‘If you see anyone on the streets of Manchester or Didsbury who look hungry, let them know where they can find a meal in a bag. Spread the love always.’

Mr Beck said they never expected the huge reaction to the post, which has been shared and liked hundreds of times on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

He told the MEN: ‘We post pictures of food all day long and sometimes they don’t get any attention, then we woke up the next morning and I’ve never seen that many likes and shares.

‘It was quite overwhelming. We’re not the only ones doing it and we’re certainly not the only people who care about people in need, but hopefully other people who have seen it will now do the same.

‘It’s either that or the bin, it’s as simple as that.’

Bosu Body Bar launched in Chorlton in 2015 before branching out to Didsbury. The team have since turned the Chorlton site on Barlow Moor Road into a Canadian-style cocktail bar, Alberta.

The city centre site has a new menu, building on its original protein box premise with meals such as protein burritos, chilli and sweet potato waffle burgers.
