A father and son who were sacked from a construction job have been charged after allegedly returning to the worksite and inciting a violent brawl yesterday.

The pair, 22 and 44, had been fired from the Meriton building site in Castle Hill on Friday, police said, before returning to Sexton Avenue construction zone on Monday.

Police alleged the pair were armed with hammers and became physical while confronting the men who sacked them.

‘On the Monday, there was probably some frustration and anger from their termination on the Friday,’ Superintendent Naomi Moore told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

‘And whether they’ve gone there to resolve it, one would argue they haven’t, as they’ve attended with hammers.’

The duo then allegedly returned to the Castle Grange condominium complex site about 7am on Tuesday, joined by supporters.

A wild brawl ensued, involving a several tradesmen trading blows on the road.

Meriton, which is behind the construction, said the contractors involved in the fray had been dumped and that no direct Meriton employees were involved.

Det Supt Moore said officers were searching for all those involved in the episode and were canvassing for any nearby CCTV.

‘There’s significant footage in nearby locations to that scene that is much clearer and we’ll be very clearly able to identify those parties,’ Detective Superintendent Moore said.

The father and son handed themselves into police on Wednesday morning, she said.

Paramedics treated a 43-year-old man and a 55-year-old man at the scene before they were taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

One man was treated for lacerations at the scene and both were released from hospital within a few hours on Tuesday.

In footage shared to Facebook, two men appeared to close in on each other before over a dozen men joined in on the action.

In a splinter group, one man could be seen removing his work helmet and using it to bash another man over the head.

During the minute-long video, at least two men were pushed to the ground, where they appeared to be kicked by someone.

Some individuals could be seen trying to separate participants, as those on the sidelines could be heard shouting a range of protests.

One witness called the behaviour ‘crazy’ while another said: ‘That’s enough… That’s four on one you’ve got there’.

The man filming the violent brawl was told not to record by another bystander, but he wasn’t deterred, telling the person to ‘f*** off!’

The developer shared a statement with Daily Mail Australia to confirm contractors involved in the incident had been sacked.

‘No direct Meriton employees were involved in the incident that took place today on the street, outside of its Castle Hill construction site,’ it said.

‘Appropriately, the local police were called who have since intervened and we have ascertained that there were no serious injuries.

‘The contractors involved in the fight have been immediately terminated.’

Police said a 44-year-old was charged with affray and stalking or intimidating intending to cause fear or physical harm.

A younger man was hit with the same charges, as well as one count of common assault.

Both were granted conditional police bail to front in Parramatta Local Court on July 16.

Anyone with information about the brawl has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
