Father of girl attacked by shark says it must be killed

The father of a teenage girl who escaped a shark attack with just minor cuts has spoken out, claiming the monster 4.5 metre white pointer should be destroyed.

Sarah Williams, 15, was fishing for squid with her family off the coast of Adelaide on Sunday when the giant shark hit her kayak, throwing her into the air before she crashed into the water.

Her father Chris Williams, 56, told The Advertiser his family ‘still don’t know how we got her out alive’.

‘If a dog attacks you we put the dog down. Why do we accept a rogue shark?,’ Mr Williams said.

While he doesn’t ‘condone the culling of sharks’, Mr Williams said those animals involved in attacks should be destroyed.

‘This shark will kill someone unless we do something about it,’ he said.

Sarah escaped the attack with only a few cuts and bruises, but was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

'Everything you picture in a jaws movie, when you see them attack your boat - you just have no idea what to think,' Sarah said

The 15-year-old spoke to 9 News on Monday, detailing her traumatic experience.

‘When I was in the air and it had hit me, I saw in the water what it was – I saw its fin,’ she told program.

Mr Williams told 9 News earlier of the horrifying moment he heard his daughter scream.

‘All of a sudden this awful sound of something hitting the plastic of the kayak, and I’ve turned around to see her hit the water,’ he said.

With tears in his eyes, Mr Williams continued: ‘This scream… you cannot describe what this scream was like.’

Mr Williams spoke to Daily Mail Australia on Sunday night after his daughter and family came to terms with the attack.

Mr Williams, a father-of-six said what scared him the most about the attack was how ‘ferocious’ the shark was.

‘It was relentless, it was spine-chilling,’ he said.

While the family spent Sunday night embracing one another, Mr Williams said he was not in a rush to get back in the water.

‘It won’t stop me from going fishing in my boat, but will I go out in the kayak again? Never,’ he said.

‘The moral here is to get out and enjoy your time together because none of us know when it’s going to end.’
