Father of young woman whose body was found in Mozambique two years ago travels abroad for answers

The father of a young woman who was found dead beside a toilet block in Africa two years ago has travelled overseas in a bid to search for answers.

Elly Warren, 20, visited Mozambique’s coastline for a dream holiday, where she scuba dived with whale sharks and manta rays.

The marine conservation volunteer from Mordialloc, south-east of Melbourne, was killed four days before she was scheduled to fly home to Australia in November 2016.

Local police failed to provide answers to the grieving family about Ms Warren’s death, but her parents believe she met a violent end.

In a preview for Sunday evenings 60 Minutes, Ms Warren’s father, Paul, visited the African country to retrace his daughters final moments.

Mr Warren remains adamant authorities have not done enough to piece together the mystery surrounding the death of the adventurous 20-year-old.

‘As far as I’m concerned, they’re not doing anything over there, it’s ridiculous,’ he told journalist Tom Steinfort.

‘It’s more frustrating than anything else, that nothing’s being done about my daughter’s death.’

Ms Warren had been in the backpacker hotspot of Tofo for six weeks as part of Underwater Africa, a conservation program that ‘helps protect the oceans’.

She had left program the day before she was found dead.

The first formal police report provided six months after her death suggested Ms Warren died of a drug overdose – despite no evidence of drugs in her system.

Almost two years after her death, Mr Warren said he believes the death is a police cover up because the investigation remains incomplete and the death has not been classified as a murder.

The 60 Minutes preview reveals that after a few days in Mozambique, Mr Warren was able to source evidence that police in charge of Ms Warren’s case don’t have.
