Father who grew and juiced cannabis to help treat his daughters’ agonising auto-immune disease

Stephen Taylor has managed to avoid jail after growing cannabis in his backyard in a bid to ease the suffering of his sick daughters

A father who went the extra mile growing and juicing cannabis in his backyard to save his daughters’ suffering from a rare auto-immune disease has dodged prison.

Stephen Taylor started growing cannabis in a bid to help cure his two daughters who both suffer from the auto-immune condition, Crohn’s disease, ABC reports.

His daughters Morgan and Ariel, from Winmalee, 80km west of Sydney, were diagnosed with the rare illness at the age of 12 and are now aged in their 20s.

It has a been a lifetime of suffering for the young women who endured uncomfortable swelling in their faces and knees, as well as painful arthritis.

The desperate father decided to take matters in his own hands after struggling to find a doctor who could prescribe medicinal cannabis for his sick daughters.

Crohn’s disease is an incurable and life-threatening auto-immune illness.

People with Crohn’s suffer from abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss, anaemia and fatigue.

Mr Taylor grew more than 100 cannabis plants and made his own homemade cannabis brew.

He gave 30mL of cannabis juice to each daughter, three times a day, he told ABC.

Late last year, Mr Taylor’s house was raided by police where he was busted for growing 107 cannabis plants. He was charged and later pleaded guilty in court.

On Friday Mr Taylor was given a six-month good behaviour bond and avoided a jail sentence.

Magistrate Stephen Corry said while he sympathised with Mr Taylor’s efforts, he should not expect the same outcome if he persisted growing cannabis.
