Father who raped his daughter, 15, believing she was his wife is jailed for two-and-a-half years in Hong Kong after court hears the girl had forgiven him

  • Parent came home ‘stinking of alcohol’ in March last year and got in child’s bed
  • He stopped having sex with her at some point after realising it was not his wife
  • Was handed reduced sentence because he refused to put family through a trial
  • Daughter held no grudges against dad but was angry with social worker for reporting it to police without consent

A father who raped his 15-year-old daughter after mistaking her for his wife has been jailed for two-and-a-half years in Hong Kong.

The High Court heard the construction worker, 59, returned home ‘stinking of alcohol’ before crawling into his daughter’s bed on the night of March 22 last year.

His child, referred to as X, tried to tell her father but she was unable to stop the drunken man. He stopped at some point during sex after realising he’d mixed up the two.

The girl told a psychologist she held no grudges against her father and had forgiven him, court documents reveal.

But X was furious with her social worker, who reported the case to police without her consent, and accused her of splitting up her family.

The father – known as YCK, to avoid the identification of his daughter – was offered to plead guilty to a charge of incest, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, to avoid a rape charge that could result in life behind bars.

But he refused to put his family through the ordeal of a trial and pleaded guilty to rape to avoid doing so.

Judge Amanda Woodcock said: ‘This is an unusual case with peculiar facts,’ before jailing the parent for two and a half years, The New Zealand Herald reports.

Woodcock acknowledged the father’s remorse by pleading guilty to spare his family from taking the stand.

The court heard the construction worker was born in mainland China and married his wife there before moving to Hong Kong by himself in the late 1970s.

The couple were reunited in Hong Kong in 2000 and went on to have their daughter and a son.
