A desperate hunt is underway for a missing four-year-old girl in South Carolina who vanished from her home after her mother was brutally beaten by an intruder.

Heidi Renae Todd was last seen at her family home on Tuesday afternoon.

She was reported missing at 6pm after police arrived at the house to find her 31-year-old mother Brittany brutally beaten in their four-bedroom home in John’s Island near Charleston at around 5pm.

Friends say the attack happened at 10am but no one knew until later in the day after she failed to pick up the older children from school.

Brittany’s mother has since described her attacker as a slim-build, Hispanic man in his 20s who was dressed entirely in gray.

Police will not say whether they think he snatched the girl or if she wandered out of the house herself while her mother was unconscious.

Heidi Renae Todd was reported missing Tuesday night. She was last seen outside her home. Her mother has been beaten and is hospitalized

Two other, younger children were inside the house with their mother when police arrived. They were not harmed.

On Wednesday, police searched local lakes and woods but found no trace of the girl.

‘There are many things that we do not know, yet, that we are still investigating, but there’s one thing we know, and that is that Heidi Todd is missing, and we need everyone to be on the lookout for this young lady,’ Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Her mother Brittany is in a ‘fair condition’ in hospital but is undergoing surgery.

She was able to speak to give a ‘very brief’ description of her attacker.

Heidi’s father Kevin was in Virginia at Coast Guard training when she vanished. He has since returned.

Heidi was wearing a hot pink top and blue pants when she disappeared.

The FBI is now offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who has information of her whereabouts.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 843 743 7200 or contact the designated tip line on 843 619 6123.
