• Footy fans don’t like mid-game interviews of Origin coaches
  • Hailed as groundbreaking when introduced by Channel 9
  • Supporters asked on X for the interviews to be scrapped

Footy fans on social media have slammed Channel Nine’s mid-game interviews of respective Origin coaches Billy Slater and Michael Maguire.

The free-to-air network panned to both coaches to gauge their thoughts on the early exchanges in the first half at Suncorp Stadium in the series decider.

Initially touted as groundbreaking analysis, supporters took to X – the social media platform formerly known as Twitter – to voice their frustration at the move.

‘Someone please start a petition to stop Nine’s interviewing of the coaches during play,’ fed up fan Brendan Crabb tweeted.

Another posted: ‘Does anyone else hate it when they go to the coaches for a comment during the game??

A third weighed in with: ‘Mid game interviews are utterly pointless. Please stop.’

In what was shaping as an Origin classic, the score was still locked at 0-0 after half an hour of frenetic play.

Clearly out for redemption after they were outmuscled in game two at the MCG, Queensland’s defence from the outset was bone-jarring.

Both Jeremiah Nanai and Cameron Murray were sin-binned late in the first half as tensions threatened to boil over.

A late penalty goal from the boot of Valentine Holmes then saw the Maroons take a 2-0 lead into the sheds at Suncorp Stadium.

Referee Ashley Klein was also spotted deep in conversation with on-field captains Daly Cherry-Evans and Issah Yeo in a bid to calm the ill feeling before both sets of teams enjoyed a well earned break in Brisbane.
