Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool is in the final stages as the 26-year-old forward landed in Merseyside today after being given permission by Juventus.

As it stands, Chiesa has one year left on contract in Italy but could be heading for an early exit with Liverpool discussing a four-year contract.

Liverpool have agreed on a fee for the 26-year-old at £10million plus £2.5m in add-ons. Footage on Wednesday showed a Cessna plane from Turin landing on the tarmac at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The 26-year-old began his career at Fiorentina and went on to make more than 150 appearances in all competitions for I Viola before joining Juventus.

Though injuries have often curtailed his involvement, Chiesa has won two Coppa Italias at the Turin club.

Chiesa enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his time at Juventus last season, scoring nine times across 33 appearances in Serie A.

Chiesa’s performances during Euro 2020 were a major highlight of his career, as he played a pivotal role in Italy’s journey to lifting the trophy.

Initially, Chiesa was not a regular starter for the Azzurri, with manager Roberto Mancini opting for other attacking options in the group stages.

However, his impact off the bench was undeniable, and he gradually forced his way into the starting eleven as the tournament progressed.

Throughout the final at Wembley, Chiesa was a constant menace down the right flank, showing no fear against England’s defenders.

His ability to carry the ball forward, often single-handedly, helped relieve pressure on the Italian defence and created opportunities for his team-mates.

One of his most memorable moments came in the 35th minute when he took on several England defenders before unleashing a powerful shot that narrowly missed the target.

Unfortunately, Chiesa’s night ended in the 86th minute of the game when he was forced off due to injury that he had sustained.

Despite this, Italy eventually won the match on penalties, securing their second European Championship, with Leonardo Bonucci cancelling out Luke Shaw’s early opener.

Chiesa’s performances throughout the tournament, particularly in the final, earned him widespread praise and attention.
