FEMAIL reveals Nicola Beckham Peltz’s woeful on-screen career as dad calls her world-famous actress

When Nicola Peltz’s father referred to her as a ‘world-famous actress’ in a recent lawsuit against her wedding planners, many were left raising their eyebrows over his exaggerated description of the budding star.

True, Nicola, 28, has starred in a series of movies over the years – however, most of her roles were either so small you might blink and you’d miss them, or they were in films that weren’t even seen enough times to get one single review on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nicola is arguably more known for her highly publicized romance with Brooklyn Beckham, whom she married last year, as well as the fact that she is the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and former model Claudia Heffner.

She has also made a name for herself as a model over the years, however, in his legal filing, Nelson, 80, who is currently vying for a seat on the board of Disney, opted to describe his daughter as a ‘world-famous actress’ instead of focusing on her contributions to the fashion world.

‘Nicola is a world-famous actress who has starred in blockbuster movies and television shows, including, among others, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel and The Last Airbender,’ the lawsuit read.

Nicola made her acting debut at age 11, when she landed a tiny role as a side character in the holiday flick Deck the Halls, which went on to receive scathing reviews and earn a shockingly low six per cent rating from critics on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

After that, she landed more small parts in a slew of straight-to-DVD movies or flicks that were slammed by reviewers.

Arguably her two biggest roles were in Nickelodeon’s live-action Avatar movie The Last Airbender – she played the Waterbender Katara – and the fourth instalment in the Transformers series – she was the daughter of the main character – however, despite both being box office hits, they were each heavily critiqued by the media in their own rights – with them being described as an ‘abomination of cinema’ and a movie that was ‘all hype and no hope’ respectively.

In the wake of Nicola’s dad’s comment, FEMAIL has gone ahead and recapped her woeful on-screen career – from her six-minute part in Hulu’s new series Welcome to Chippendales to her brief appearance in the ‘terminally lame’ 2008 comedy Harold.

Nicola landed her first role at age 11 – as a side character in the holiday flick Deck the Halls, which has a six per cent rating from critics

He gets into a war with his new neighbor, who is also a Christmas enthusiast, as the two try to outdo one another with their decorations – which almost ruins the entire holiday for both of them.

In addition to Nicola, it stars Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis, and Kristin Chenoweth.

Nicola played a side character, named Mackenzie, in the film, which grossed a total of $47.2 million at the box office.

It was reported that the movie had a budget of $51 million, meaning it only earned back 91.8 per cent of its total budget.

It has a surprisingly low rating on Rotten Tomatoes – earning a six per cent from critics and 30 per cent from audiences.

‘Laden with false climaxes, the overstuffed plot leaves you exhausted well before the movie ends, and the amiable actors sleepwalk through their uninspired roles,’ a review from Time Out read.

‘Got any kids who’ve been naughty this year? Here’s their present,’ Empire Magazine wrote about the flick.

The website Film Frenzy said: ‘This nonsense seems to have been conceived on the back of a snot-soaked tissue by a none-too-bright third grader.’

She then had a tiny part in the 2008 comedy Harold, which made only $13,000 at the box office and was branded it as ‘terminally lame’

The flick earned a 31 per cent from critics and 41 per cent from audience on Rotten Tomato, but critics branded it as ‘terminally lame’ and ‘unfunny.’

‘Harold is the type of one-note dead zone ideally suited for a bathroom break while sitting home on a Saturday night, alone and semi-drunk, in front of the television,’ the New York Times wrote.

‘Confidently struts along, seemingly unaware of its lackluster script and distinct lack of professionalism,’ FilmCritic.com scathed.

In 2010, Nicola was cast as Katara in the live-action Avatar movie The Last Airbender – arguably the biggest role of her career.

Based off the first season of the popular animated show, the flick – which was directed by M. Night Shayamalan and produced by Nickelodeon – followed the war between the four nations of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire.

When an Avatar named Aang discovers he has the power to control all of the elements, he joins forces with Katara – a Waterbender – and her brother, Sokka, to try to end the destruction once and for all.

The movie made $319 million at the box office, and went on to become the fourth-highest grossing Nickelodeon movie.

Despite being a box office hit, it was widely panned by critics, receiving only a five per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 30 per cent from audiences.

‘How did Shyamalan get it so wrong?’ London Evening Standard wrote, while Shockya.com added, ‘Shyamalan takes the beloved source material, strips the characters of all emotion, throws in intrusive narration, douses it in CGI and tries to pass it off as a viable effort.’

One Rotten Tomatoes commenter, who remained anonymous, called it an ‘abomination of cinema’ and said it ‘ruined their memory of the beloved show.’

Nicola played the main character in the movie 2012 Eye of the Hurricane, but it was watched by so few that it has no ratings on Rotten Tomatoes

It also has no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, leaving us to wonder how many people actually watched the movie.

Directed by Kevin Asch, the movie starred Ben Rosenfield, Gregg Sulkin, and Grand Gustin.

Nicola played a teen named Kate Miller, an ex of Fisher’s who he is desperate to get back.

The flick had a limited release so it’s unclear how much it made, but it has a low score on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audiences – 20 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.

‘It’s really just bad writing,’ Entertainment Weekly wrote while discussing the movie.

‘It attempts to tackle weighty themes but ultimately feels as shallow as the lives of most of its principal characters,’ said the Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Nicola and Alex, it featured Juliette Lewis, Jennifer Morrison, Robert Patrick, and Danika Yarosh. Nicola portrayed one of Harley’s sisters.

‘Pettyfer’s performance is deeply engaging… Hopefully he’ll find a script that fits him a little better in the future,’ NME wrote in a review.

Metro News said: ‘Ultimately, though, Back Roads is unrewarding – like getting an Easter basket filled with lead eggs.’

The reviews were mixed, with one person from SlashFilm writing, ‘While Our House sounds horribly generic on paper, it’s Burns’ directorial eye and sensationalism that frames ghostly haunts with confidence.’

However, a writer at Now Toronto disagreed, stating, ‘With a brief runtime and a script that doesn’t dig deep enough, both the drama and the scares are underserved.’

The Guardian added: ‘The sleaze, glamour, and general air of excess that hung about the 80s is nicely captured, and all eight episodes can be easily binged.’
