FEMAIL rounds up the worst dressed at Derby Day

While there were countless beautiful outfits on show at Saturday’s Derby Day, not everything came off without a glitch.

Among the 100,000 plus race-goers in Melbourne for the weekend were a host of unusually-dressed celebrities.

From jackets without pants to hats bigger than the Minister for Foreign Affairs’ head, frouffy frills and even a feathered outfit, FEMAIL takes a look at some of the more bizarre looks rocked on Derby Day.

Actress, Melissa George, appeared to be going for fairy tale vibes, in her Schiaparelli gown (pictured)

However, she somewhat missed the mark thanks to a strange tartan purple panel in the skirt and a black ribbon worn as a choker

The biggest talking point of the day was Julie Bishop’s headwear choice, which stood diagonal on her head looking like a sombrero and took up excessive amounts of space.

While the Minister for Foreign Affairs was all smiles with her partner, David Ranton, not everyone was complimentary of her choice of accessories.

Comedian, Em Rusciano, was another notable fail. Her outfit, which featured a sheer top, leather pants and feathers was on the unusual end of the spectrum for the traditional affair that is Derby Day.

The look came across more frouffy than fabulous.

TV presenter, Ksenija Lukich, also opted for an unusual outfit, when she debuted a look comprising an over-sized Toni Maticevski jacket, no apparent pants and over-the-knee printed boots.

The E! host appeared to fly in the face of normal race day conventions, which invite below-the-knee gowns and a more traditional approach.

Never to be outdone in the style stakes, Terry Biviano paired an all-white pant suit with a bold red lip, matching hat and bag which divided sartorial critics.

P.E. Nation designer, Pip Edwards, rarely puts a sartorial foot wrong, but her Derby Day get-up left a lot to be imagined.

The Sydney-based fitness personality paired a bizarre Lucy Folk headpiece with a lingerie-inspired Louis Vuitton white dress and bag.

Australian supermodel, Robyn Lawley, also appeared to get the lingerie memo, with her skintight black silky dress, which she wore with an unusually clumpy choice of heel.

Meanwhile, Bachelorette, Georgia Love, paired a striking for the wrong reasons mini dress by Atoir with a Suzy O’Rourke headpiece.

There was a rare fashion fail from Anna Heinrich and her Bachelor partner, Tim Robards.

While Anna’s neat black-and-white floor-length ensemble was pretty and won plaudits on the day, her partner, Tim’s, shoe choice had everyone talking – and not in a good way.

Derby Day was attended by around 100,000 people; it marks the official beginning of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The reality star’s outfit was finished off with one of the dominating trends of the day – an oversized hat.
