A maths tutor accused of trying to start a lesbian affair with a teenage pupil after telling her she had ‘attractive and alluring’ eyes is facing a retrial.
Aveesha Ahsan, 34, allegedly hugged and kissed the teenager after offering to buy her gifts including a Kindle, prom dress and make-up.
Ahsan asked the 16-year-old to engage in sexual activity and to marry her in a series of WhatsApp messages, the court heard.
But a jury was discharged at the Inner London Crown Court today after failing to reach a verdict following four and a half hours of deliberation.
Judge Nigel Seed, QC, gave the Crown a week to made a decision on whether the teacher should face a retrial.
Giving evidence Ahsan denied asking the girl to marry her and blamed a typo saying she wanted to ‘merry’ her, which meant ‘to be friends’.
She denied assaulting the girl by forcibly hugging and kissing her but demonstrated to the court how she had planted a kiss on the girl’s forehead.
Ahsan, from Lewisham in south London, denies sexual assault and sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.
She was released on bail ahead of the prosecution making a decision about a retrial on December 7.
