Finally! An Aussie Test batsman makes a HUGE score … in the real estate market

  • The art of Test cricket had the Aussies stumped in Perth
  • They will be looking to bounce back in Adelaide Test
  • One batsman is hoping for a double win

Finding big numbers on the cricket pitch has been a major challenge for Australia’s Test batsman so far this summer, but at least one is about to secure a big score off the field.

Australia’s woes in the first Test against India have been well documented.

The top order was decimated by Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah leaving the Australian side left to count the cost of a 256-run hammering in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Aussies will be looking for some redemption in the second Test today, a day/night match at Adelaide Oval.

But while they have not been filling up the scorecard, at least one of the batsmen will come into the match knowing they will soon enjoy a much healther bank balance.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has put his Adelaide home on the market ahead of his hometown Test – and it has already become the most viewed property in Australia this week.

Carey and his wife Eloise purchased the 685sqm Netherby property in 2017 with intentions of renovating, but have instead listed it while the market is hot.

It will be a tight juggle for the Aussie Test star, who will have the auction in the morning and day two of the Test match in the afternoon.

‘The game starts in the afternoon…at 2pm and the auction is that morning, so we’ll have to wait and see how it goes,’ Carey said.

‘I guess, I’ll be either going out on the field happy or going out on the field unsure.

‘But I think it will appeal to a number of buyers, so hopefully it will go well for us…and we’ll get to celebrate a double win.’

The home has had some loving work put into it by the couple and is expected to collect a premium price tag when it goes under the hammer.

‘We’ve done some little home maintenance projects before when we lived in Panorama…but with this project we decided to start fresh but still stick with the character of the area,’ Carey said.

‘We put a nice bluestone frontage on it and love the high ceilings.

‘I’m also very proud of my lawn and even bought a nice cylinder mower to mow it, so letting that go hurts me a little.

‘I also love my wine, so I made sure there was a nice wine room in there – that was a big must, so will all those inclusions I hope it will appeal to a number of buyers.’

Meanwhile Josh Inglis has been released from Australia’s Test squad to get some valuable red-ball cricket with Western Australia.

Inglis travelled from Adelaide to Sydney on Thursday night, allowing him to play in Friday’s Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the SCG.

Australia’s reserve batsman can be recalled to the Test squad if required and can also be sent back to Adelaide in the event of a concussion substitute.

There is every chance Inglis could be in the conversation for a Test debut next week in Brisbane, if Australia’s batting struggles again against India.
