Fireman was called to car crash scene where his own niece tragically died

Firefighter called out to fatal car accident is stunned to find his 18-year-old mother-of-one niece had been killed in the crash

A firefighter was called to the scene of a car crash in which he discovered his own niece had tragically died.

Nathan Williams was among a rescue team dispatched after a Renault Clio span out of control and hit a wall at Monk Bretton, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire earlier this month.

But soon after arriving at the scene, he realised his 18-year-old niece Jordan Williams was one of two people involved and had been killed.

Jordan’s grandmother, Lesley Hallworth, 57, said: ‘One of the first on scene was her uncle, who is a fireman.

‘He didn’t recognise Jordan at the time and it took a good few minutes before he realised who it was.

‘He immediately rang his brother Scott and they rushed to the scene. He was in major shock.’

Ms Williams was a mother to a 19-month-old boy called Riley, who was at his great-grandparents’ house at the time of the crash.

Ms Hallworth added: ‘We got the call and it just floored us. We had Riley with us and it is very, very hard to deal with.

‘He has no idea what has happened thank god. He is an angel and absolute dream to look after. That’s credit to Jordan who was a brilliant mum.’

The crash happened shortly after 5am on Saturday, October 19. Police are appealing for information.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ‘The passenger of the Clio, an 18-year-old woman, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Her family are being supported by specially trained officers. The Clio was believed to have been travelling behind a white Citroen C1.

‘Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, who may have seen the driving manner of either vehicle prior to the collision, or who may have any information that can help with our enquiries.’

The Williams family, from Barnsley, have now get up a GoFundMe page to help support Ms Williams’ little son.
