Five people injured after car slams into pedestrians

  • A black hatchback slammed into a pole on the corner of Rundle and Pulteney St 
  • Emergency crews were called to the intersection just after 4pm on Saturday
  • Major Crash Investigators are on scene and police are appealing for witnesses  

Five people have been rushed to hospital after a car slammed into a light pole in Adelaide’s CBD on Saturday afternoon.

The driver of a black BMW hatchback was taken to Royal Adelaide hospital in serious but stable condition, while his male passenger and three female pedestrians were also injured. 

Emergency crews were called to the intersection at the corner of Rundle and Pulteney Streets just after 4pm.

It’s understood the driver was traveling north on Pulteney Street and was trying to turn into Rundle Street we he lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into a light pole and three women. 

‘(There was) a loud band and smoke coming out of the bonnet and everyone rushed to help,’ a witness told Seven News

‘There was screams from a woman just screaming, “help me, someone please come and help me,’ she said. 

 

All access to the area has been blocked, with traffic between North Terrace, Grenfell Street and Bent Street being diverted by police. 

Major Crash Investigators are on the scene.
