Five people injured after horror rollover on the Hume Highway

  • Eight people were trapped in van rollover 
  • Four are in hospital with serious injuries 

Three children and an adult have been airlifted to hospital after a horror crash that left eight people trapped in a mini van on the Hume Highway.

The mini van rolled on the highway between Sydney and Canberra, near Marulan, at around 12pm on Tuesday.

The male driver, believed to be aged in his 50s, and seven passengers were left trapped for a short time before bystanders freed them, NSW Police said. 

The driver received minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

NSW Ambulance helicopters also responded to one adult and three children with serious injuries.  

The crash has closed all southbound lanes of the Hume Highway, with a detour opened on Jerrara Road. 

Police are now investigating the circumstances of the crash.
