Five places to find love if you are single in 2018

It’s a well known fact that many singles begin to feel exceptionally lonely during the holiday season.

But with just hours until the new year kicks off, singles are urged to shed their holiday season slump and take on 2018 with a new attitude and a willingness to try new things.

‘You find yourself single, all your friends seem to have plans and after your stint online you may have decided dating sites and apps just aren’t for you,’ Perth’s millionaire matchmaker, Louanne Ward, told FEMAIL.

‘It’s time to give up and return to the monotonous dating cycle… but wait, just before you consider another year of dating fails consider these five places to restart your New Year’s dating resolution.’

1. SWEAT IT OUT

‘As the clock strikes midnight we reach for the notebook and frantically begin our list of goals for the year ahead,’ Louanne said.

‘The three most common goals being 1) career 2) health and fitness and 3) relationships.

‘There is never a bad time to begin a new fitness goal but there’s no denying the new year sparks a flurry of eager singles all wanting to achieve a better self image.

‘After all when you look good, you feel good, when you feel good you’re more confident and when you’re more confident you attract people to you.

‘It is a perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. No matter what your choice of fitness be it the gym, yoga, cross fit, stand-up paddle boarding or cycling you are opening yourself up and mixing with people that share a common interest and common goal.’

How to break the single cycle

Dating and relationships take time, patience, commitment and a deeper understanding of yourself, rather than looking at the first world attitude of needing an excuse for everything. Look at the truth of the destructive behaviours that are really holding you back, such as:

* Being a victim and blaming others with labels

* Having unrealistic expectations and expecting everything to go your way

* Creating false fantasies of the future

* Comparing your life to other people’s lives and relationships

* Residual emotional baggage from previous experiences

In order to break the Single Cycle; get real, take ownership and work on your self-worth rather than expecting it from others.

2. HEAD TO THE THEATRE… YES THEATRE

‘I cannot believe I’m even suggesting the movies as a place to meet someone but at this time of year it is a singles playground,’ Louanne said.

‘A place where you normally skulk in and out, going unnoticed, grab a box of Kleenex and find the saddest movie you can, or unleash your inner hopeless romantic and head straight for the latest rom com, or maybe action? Mystery? Drama?

‘Whatever your genre you are in a meeting hub of opportunity. All the latest releases come out on Boxing Day filling the cinemas daily in all sessions.

‘Time to seize the day and walk in boldly holding your head high or just head in early, have a coffee or meal or a glass of wine beforehand and you never know who you meet at the candy bar or who you’ll sit next to you.

‘Again it’s another perfect place to start up a conversation and a popular escape from reality for many singles.’

3. EMBRACE SOCIAL MEDIA IN A DIFFERENT WAY

While apps may not be your cup of tea, that doesn’t mean you have to get off the Internet completely.

‘You might not want to join an online dating site or app, or maybe you’ve been there and done that and vowed never to do it again, but there is no denying social media serves many purposes,’ Louanne said.

‘So why not the purpose of meeting someone? Do you notice someone who is always leaving great comments or pops up liking the same things you do?

‘I’m not suggesting you hit up everyone on Facebook or Insta who likes something you do but many great friendships and relationships are formed on social media. Take the time to reach out and get to know someone.’

4. SOAK IN THE SUN

‘The beach is always a great place to meet someone but there is something even more alluring at this time of year,’ Louanne said.

‘You see many singles just aren’t interested in parties and social events but still want to escape the four walls.

‘The beach is a place you can never feel out of place, it makes you feel happy, relaxed, and in tune with yourself.

‘In addition the adrenaline of catching a wave and the cold, refreshing water all awaken our senses and release dopamine, the happy chemical in our brain. In this state your happiness is raised leaving you more open, receptive and approachable.’

5. GRAB A COFFEE

‘The opportunities are endless in more ways than one,’ Louanne said.

‘With many businesses slowing down this time of year more people are taking their time and lingering in their favourite coffee haunts.

‘Set time in your day to become a regular, even if it’s only for a week or month, strangers become familiar when you’ve seen them a few times and you will get familiar with the regulars.

‘Find a place you feel comfortable in which makes it all the much easier to break into conversation over a shared love of morning, afternoon or evening coffee.

‘After all coffee is the one drink we can take with us from morning all the way through to bedtime.’
