Just when you thought one of Britain’s most affluent districts couldn’t get any more indulgent, four gold sports cars parked up outside a luxury department store.

The green-coated doormen of Harrods are no doubt used to displays of ostentation, but today they could have been forgiven for rubbing their eyes in disbelief at the downright decadence that graced Knightsbridge.

In a show of flamboyance that would make Liberaci cringe, a Ferrari, Mercedes, Bentley and Porsche lined up outside the West London shopping hub.

The flashy fleet carries a combined worth of more than £500,000 and is believed to have been used as part of filming for the new series of Top Gear.

And for those worried that the gratuitous sheen might mean an understated inferior, the Ferrari 458 Spyder’s convertible roof was down for all to enjoy its glaring red seats.

The car’s top speed is 200mph, way ahead of the 155mph that can be reached by the Mercedes AMG C63 sitting next to it.

The Spyder is also the most expensive of the group at £200,000 followed by the Bentley Continental GTC, which sells for £160,000. Behind the Bentley was parked a Porsche Panamera, capable of reaching 150mph and retailing at £90,000.

This isn’t the first time a golden convoy has been pictured in Knightsbridge. Just shy of two years ago a Saudi billionaire brought a group of gold cars with a combined worth of £1.5million to its streets.

His collection included a Mercedes six-wheel off-roader, a Mansory Bentley Flying Spur and a Rolls-Royce.
