Fleur East is late for her own radio show after ‘intense’ Strictly training

‘I was dancing until past 10pm’: Fleur East is late for her own radio show after sleeping through her alarm following ‘intense’ Strictly training

Fleur East was twenty minutes late to her own early morning breakfast show at Hits Radio on Tuesday as she continues to struggle with her gruelling ’15-hour work day’.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 35, was revealed to be ‘missing in action’ by co-hosts James Barr and Matt Haslam as they came on air at 6am.

The singer has been training for the BBC dance competition and slept through her alarm after rehearsing with partner Vito Coppola until gone 10pm the night before.

James and Matt reassured listeners: ‘She’s going to be here soon. She’s doing 15-hour days at the moment so we do need to cut her some slack!’

When Fleur did finally make it on air she admitted: ‘I slept a little too well last night guys – I was dancing until past 10pm which explains the bags under my eyes. Bags for life!’

Adding the pressure, Fleur and Vito found themselves at the top of last weeks leader board after dancing in the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom scoring the first 40 of the series.

The pair hope to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas with their ‘Fleurito’, a sensual rhumba to the Sugababes Too Lost In You, this week.

However, the presenter said all the practice’s have started to take a toll and her ‘hips are so sore’ from learning the ‘intense’ routine.

She said: ‘The rumba is really intense and a lot of technique so I was rhumba-ing late into the night with Vito and my hips are so sore – I’ve never moved my hips so much in my life!

‘Every week is a reset it’s a brand-new show again, new dance, new technique so you’ve got to start again.’

The X Factor star previously got emotional after dedicating her dance last Saturday night to her later father Malcolm, who died in 2020.

Talking in a piece to camera during the rehearsals before the live show, Fleur explained that Strictly was her dad’s favourite TV show.

‘It was his favourite show. When I was on The X Factor, it used to run the same time as Strictly and my dad used to be very annoyed that he had to miss the Strictly results because he was watching me on TV,’ she laughed.

She continued: ‘If my dad was here and he knew I was performing in Blackpool, he would burst with pride. He was my biggest fan. Everything I’m doing, I’m doing for him and to make him proud.’

And taking to the stage on the night, Fleur’s performance was nothing short of sensational as she stepped out clad in sequins for a performance to Destiny’s Child.

The dance received judge Craig Revel Horwood’s first 10 out of 10 marking of the season, resulting in a perfect 40 out of 40 points, which is also a first.

And Fleur was over the moon with the achievement, with partner Vito scooping her into his arms and over his shoulder following the news.
