‘No more than a dozen roughly (are affected) and there is no significant impact on international flights,’ he said.

Most of the CBD’s buildings have been covered by the thick sheet of white clouds, making it difficult to see the usually picturesque harbour.

A Qantas spokesman confirmed the fog had ‘no impact’ on their flights.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman told Daily Mail Australia the thick cloud is expected to clear up later this morning.

‘It probably won’t last very long because the day is progressing and the ground is heating up,’ he said.

‘We can expect these hazy conditions to lift in next hour or so … about 10 or 11am.’

The weather bureau claimed the heavy fog was partly caused by the hazard reduction burns which took place towards the Blue Mountain area.

People have taken to social media bewildered by the heavy presence of fog, claiming the sight is unusual for the New South Wales capital city.

‘Sydney doesn’t really do fog as a general rule, but this morning it’s pretty thick,’ one person wrote online.
