An officer used a tube of personal lubricant to taunt a gunman who tried to kill him and his son during a traffic stop as the shooter was jailed for life.
Kevin Rojas, 21, was sentenced on Wednesday after a jury convicted him on charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft auto and fleeing.
Speaking of the shooting in Jacksonville, Florida in 2016, the officer told the court: ‘I will take those bullets instead of a fellow officer and an innocent bystander.
‘When I brought the fight back to you, you ran like a coward.
‘Obviously that day changed my life, and it will never be the same.’
The Times-Union described Rojas as ‘smug’ in court.
During the hearing the officer then pulled out a tube of K-Y Jelly, a personal lubricant, and said: ‘You are going to need a lot of this.’

The undercover officer, who is not being named to protect his identity, was taking his son to school in March 2016 when he noticed Rojas driving erratically.
He pulled the then 19-year-old over. When Rojas got out of the car, he immediately opened fire.
Bullets struck the officer in the face, stomach and hand. The child was not hit.

‘It only took for me to look away for one second, and he was already on top of me trying to kill me,’ the officer said, according to News 4 Jax.
Rojas declined to speak in court and no character witnesses were present at his sentencing hearing.
His family fled the courtroom in tears.

Investigators learned he had been in an argument with his live-in girlfriend and threatened to harm himself.
Rojas will be eligible for parole in 25 years.
