A large sinkhole opened up at an intersection in front of a Florida couple’s mobile home forcing them to evacuate.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports that the hole – estimated to be 25 feet wide and 15 feet deep – opened early Tuesday at the large Rolling Greens subdivision in Ocala.
A man, identified as Harold, who lives across the street from the displaced couple told the local news outlet that there had been a barricade on the site for some time because of a small depression.

According to a neighbor, there had been a barricade on the site for some time because of a small depression
At around 2am on Tuesday, when he usually wakes up for work, Harold said he saw that the depression had become larger, so he grabbed a flashlight and realized that a sinkhole had begun to form.
He then called 911 first, then the couple who lived in the home, and then his neighbors.
Harold added that management later told him that a ‘geological crew’ would inspect the sinkhole on Wednesday and that the couple is staying in another home in the community, according to the Ocala Star-Banner.

Linda McCormick, who lives in a home in the same neighborhood, said she had noticed a dip in the road for weeks and that seeing the sinkhole was ‘nerve-racking’.
She speculated that heavy rains in the area Monday may have hastened the hole’s expansion.
Meanwhile, across town, repairs had just begun on another sinkhole that opened up outside a restaurant in June and almost swallowed a car coming out of the drive-thru.
That hole, about 25 feet wide and 25 feet deep, is being filled with concrete and cement.
