A Florida man faces up to 45 years in prison for crashing into a mobile home and killing a sleeping couple and their unborn baby.

A Manatee County jury found 38-year-old Christian Crawford guilty earlier this month of three counts of DUI manslaughter and one count of DUI with property damage. His sentencing is scheduled for October 30.

At about 2.30am on April 1, 2015, Crawford was driving an SUV north on U.S. 41 when he crossed the median and crashed through the fence at the Lone Oak Mobile Home Park.

The vehicle slammed into the home of 21-year-old Ivan Carlos and 18-year-old Brenda Aviles-Pena, who was nine months pregnant.

Authorities say that Crawford had cocaine and marijuana in his system at the time of the accident.

‘I am glad we could achieve some justice for Ivan, Brenda and their unborn baby,’ Assistant State Attorney Garrett Franzen said to the Bradenton Herald.

‘Their lives were taken all too soon in this senseless tragedy, and hopefully this could bring some closure to their family.’

The couple had been living in a shed next to his family’s mobile home for a month in an effort to save money for their own home.

Crawford had previously served time for convictions of sale or delivery of cocaine and possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a place of worship.

His has also previously been convicted of petty theft, violation of probation, unauthorized use of a credit card and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crawford has been in custody since his arrest on September 23, 2015.
