A Florida man is lucky to be alive after lying unconscious in a parking lot for seven hours as fire ants swarmed his face.
Clifford Rice, 49, suffered a seizure last month while working as a security guard at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. He was searching for his car when he collapsed between two parked cars.
‘The last thing I remember were the ants coming for me a lot of them,’ Rice told WFTS.
Despite being dehydrated and unable to breathe on his own, Rice defied the odds and recovered, with hospital staff dubbing him the Miracle Man.

Despite being dehydrated and unable to breathe on his own, Rice defied the odds and recovered, with hospital staff dubbing him the Miracle Man
According to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Rice was ‘unresponsive, unable to breath on his own, dangerously dehydrated, in organ failure and had extensive physical injuries from prolonged exposure to the elements’ when he arrived at the hospital.
‘His chance of survival was very low. But he defied the odds and today he was able to go home. We wish you well in your continued recovery, Clifford!’ the hospital said on Facebook.
Rice woke up 60 pounds lighter and blind in one eye, but said he is grateful to be alive.
‘[The ants] were just coming in a line like, ”Hey, man, come get some meat.” I was like, ”Wow, OK, this is a bad way to go out,” , he recalled.
Rice said he felt dehydrated and overheated before he collapsed.
He said he tried calling for help but dropped his cellphone.
‘I wasn’t supposed to be alive. They had never seen anything like it before and, you know, I barely had any life left in me when I got [to the hospital],’ Rice said.
When he arrived at the hospital, he was unable to breathe on his own, dangerously dehydrated and in organ failure
Rice, who had no prior health issues, was extremely dehydrated, his kidneys were shutting down and could no longer breathe on his own.
He blames ‘New York pride’ for not calling for help as soon as he felt weary while trying to find his car
‘I definitely should’ve did it a different way,’ Rice said. ‘That New York pride, man. It’s just like, I don’t need no help. I can do this on my own.
‘I’m fortunate. Very fortunate.’
