A notorious Florida retirement village has been thrust into the spotlight again after a TikTok video that claims to show a color-coded loofah system used by senior swingers to indicate their sexual preferences went viral.
The video, which was posted by drag queen Tora Himan and has been viewed more than three million times, cycles through a series of photos of cars in a parking lot that have different colored loofahs hanging off them.
The TikTok creator tagged the location as Florida’s The Villages, the world’s largest retirement community that surpasses the size of Manhattan and encompasses five zip codes, with more than 130,000 residents.
Previously DailyMail.com reported it had a thriving swingers’ scene and a black market for Viagra.
Tora’s video also goes on to show a chart that apparently reveals the meanings behind the loofah colors and was previously shared on Reddit three years ago.

Tora’s video also goes on to show a chart that apparently reveals the meanings behind the loofah colors and was previously shared on Reddit three years ago
According to the chart, white means the owner is a novice and beginner, purple says you’re a voyeur, pink indicates a ‘soft swap’ or ‘people who like to do it with others in the room’ and blue is for the ‘lowest level of full swap’ and ‘those who can play well with others.’
The three other colors are yellow, black and teal, which correspond to a mid-level swap ‘for those who want to have fun but are still nervous,’ a full swap for ‘those who say what the hell let it all go down’ and bisexual for ‘those that want to increase their dating chances’ respectively.
Unsurprisingly there was quite a response to Tora’s TikTok video.
‘I work in the villages we have a paper in our desk to see what’s what when we see them drive by or clients get out of cars,’ one person said.
‘Yep. My parents used to own a house there and I visited often and seen these everywhere. Told them to do the same. They said they’re no swingers,’ another added.
‘Omg this is so true, I worked in the villages and absolutely loved it!! these ppl live there entire best life’s #goals minus the STD’S (sic),’ someone else wrote.
‘The loofa thing in The Villages has been going on for a long long time. At least 20+ years,’ one comment read.
But not everyone was convinced the loofahs were there for nefarious purposes.

A second video also showed a car with some loofahs on top. But some are convinced it’s a ‘myth’
The TikTok creator tagged the location as Florida’s The Villages, the world’s largest retirement community that surpasses the size of Manhattan, with more than 130,000 residents
‘People use these to find their cars. That’s an urban legend,’ one person said.
Another person added: ‘My aunt and uncle live there and claim it’s not a thing.’
Ready to get frisky: How you can identify a swinger
Pineapples: The fruit left on a door step is a known symbol in swinger circles to let neighbors know you’re in ‘the lifestyle,’ while a version of the pineapple as an upside down symbol means you are either a swinger or looking for a swinger party
Lawn ornaments: Reports have circulated that garden decorations such as gnomes and flamingos could be an indicator your neighbor is keen on swapping partners
Adirondack chairs: The humble furniture is apparently a sign of swingers, with different colors having a hidden meaning, according to Urban Dictionary
On the Reddit post, a person who claimed to have worked at The Villages ‘for over three years’ also said the loofah system was a ‘myth.’
‘The reason for the loofas is simple, it’s so they can find THEIR car. All the retirees drive similar car and old gran can’t go around the whole parking lot looking for her car,’ the redditor said.
‘So the loofa is an easy way for them to spot it from a distance. Trust me all the people I have met are definitely not swingers as most the can barely stand without assistance.’
But others were skeptical, with one person joking: ‘Just because they can’t walk doesn’t mean they can’t “swing.”‘
‘It’s so cute that you think that,’ another added.
‘As someone that owns 2 houses there I can tell you its absolutely true. City Fire [bar] on the weekends, or just about any night really, is a sure fire way to get some,’ a third person said.
The Villages has been contacted by DailyMail.com for comment on the matter.
Spanning 32-square-miles, The Villages is a veritable boom-town for baby boomers aged 55+ who flock to the geriatric paradise in droves for its endless margarita mixers (happy hour starts at 11am), unlimited golf courses, and notorious for its laissez-fair attitude towards sex, thriving swingers scene, and controversial politics.
Unsurprisingly there was quite a response to Tora’s TikTok video, with some people who claimed to have worked at The Village confirming the claims
A barman at a restaurant in The Villages told DailyMail.com in 2014: ‘I was paid $100 for three hours work at a swingers party in a private house.
‘Two of the men approached me and asked if I’d be interested bar tending. They told me there’d be things going on I might not want to see.
‘Trust me – having worked the party before things got too hot and heavy – there are things I am trying to forget already.
‘There were 10 people – all in their late 50s to mid 60s – and by the time I left they didn’t need any more drink. There was a full-blown orgy going on.
‘I’m open-minded but I made it clear I wasn’t on the menu – I didn’t want anyone touching me. Working at the Villages is a real eye opener. As a barman I get old women coming on to me all the time. Some of them know no shame.’

As well as a health clinic that caters for the myriad health problems of the elderly residents there is a infectious disease clinic to deal with allegedly high sexually transmitted diseases in The Villages

Doctors told author Andrew Blechman, who penned 2009’s Leisureville – a book detailing life at The Villages, there were more cases of herpes than in Miami and the rates for sexually transmitted diseases were amongst the highest in America
Belinda Beard, 62, said: ‘All of the women work hard to look good. But it’s more than just a social thing. Turn your back for a minute and someone will try to steal your husband.
‘With 10 women to every man, you can’t afford to let your guard slip.’
Inevitably for a retiree complex, there are numerous medical facilities, including an infectious diseases center where the elderly can go for STD treatment.
