Florida woman reveals burn scars from botched dye job

A Florida woman revealed her horrific third-degree chemical burns on her scalp after getting her hair professionally dyed in 2014.

Morgan Reynolds recently spoke out about the dangers of hair salons after she went in for a $170 dye job that led to thousands of dollars in medical bills.

‘I had no idea that I could walk into a salon and walk out permanently disfigured,’ Reynolds, who now has a 2-inch bare spot with very thin skin at the top of her head, told News 6.

Reynolds said she had colored her own hair in the past but when she decided to go from brown to platinum blonde she knew she had to get it professionally done.

‘I was really excited,’ said Reynolds. ‘I’d never had my hair bleached before, so I was excited to be able to dye it pink.’

Before heading to just any salon, Reynolds said she researched and based her decision off of good reviews.

Her final decision came down to the Honeycomb Hair and Make-up Studio in Winter Park, a salon that her friend even recommended.

Reynolds acccused the stylist at the salon of ignoring her complaints that her scalp was burning while she was putting in the bleach.

According to Reynolds, the stylist told her everything was fine and even tried to say it could be ‘an allergic reaction’.

‘She had already done half my hair and was moving on to this half, and it started burning,’ said Reynolds.

‘And I let her know. I asked if it was normal. And she said, “Yes that could happen,” and just let me know if it gets really bad,’ Reynolds told the station.

Reynolds said the stylist didn’t know what was going on nor did she know how to ‘neutralize’ the burn.

After going to the hospital, doctors told Reynolds that she had third-degree chemical burns.

About two weeks alter, pieces of her scalp and clumps of her hair started falling out.

‘For about the next 10 months, I was left with about 5 inches of my scalp exposed,’ she said.

Reynolds has undergone multiple surgeries at a burn clinic and she may have to undergo at least two more in the future. Last month, the salon owner, Samantha Schulze, released a statement denying that Reynolds was burned at her business (pictured)

And when Reynolds tried to file a civil lawsuit, it was dropped after her attorneys told her the salon owner’s insurance didn’t cover her claim and they didn’t legally have to either, according to News 6.

The salon did not have liability insurance, making it tough for attorneys to take on a a salon injury case.

Last month, the salon owner, Samantha Schulze, released a statement regarding the incident.

Schulze claimed whatever caused the burns to Reynolds’ scalp came from ‘something she got into after she left my salon’.

She said Reynolds posted a smiling photo to social media shortly after the alleged incident.

‘Morgan Reynolds came into the salon on October 29, 2014, for highlights and color. While Morgan Reynolds was in the chair, she kept asking the stylist to keep the peroxide and bleach agent (highlights) on her hair for longer than the product allows,’ the statement, which was obtained by WFTV, read.

‘Of course, the stylist would not do it… Please understand I do not take it lightly that a client of my salon complains of being burnt by a treatment, but I truly believe that Morgan Reynolds’ scalp was burnt by something she got into after she left my salon,’ the owner wrote.
