Flynn the Bichon Frise wins the 142nd Westminster Dog Show

A five-year-old Bichon Frise called Flynn was named Best in Show at the 2018 Westminster Dog Show in NYC and as well as his agility it was his fluffy good looks that were a hit with the crowd.

Flynn took home the top prize at the 142nd Westminster Dog Show in New York City sporting a fluffy coat that looked like a cross between a cloud and cottonballs after showing off his jaunty walk and happy demeanor.

Wife of Flynn’s trainer Bill McFadden, Taffe McFadden, explained how they get the pooch ready for a show by shampooing and conditioning his coat and adding some hairspray to keep his fur in place.

‘You bathe him and dry him and then trim him, then retrim him at the show, then trim him again when he wins,’ she said.

‘And then you just keep trimming him,’ she added. She also added a substance called Fairy Frost to Flynn’s face during the competition, as its ‘the stuff that dries the drool on their face’.

Seven finalists made the final round, one champion from each group. The groups are terriers, toy dogs, working dogs, herding dogs, sporting dogs, non-sporting dogs, and hounds. Flynn had won the non-sporting group.

Ty the giant schnauzer finished second in the competition. The other finalists included Lucy the borzoi, Biggie the pug, Slick the border collie, Bean the Sussex spaniel and Winston the Norfolk terrier.

‘It feels a little unreal,’ Bill McFadden, said to The New York Times.

‘I came in expecting nothing and just hoping for a good performance and I think I got it.’

McFadden has been showing the Bichon Frise breed at Westminster since 1991.

McFadden also added that Flynn will likely retire from the dog show circuit following his win. He will turn 6 in March.

‘I’d have to ask the owners, but I’m pretty sure I can drop the mic and say he’s retired,’ McFadden told Fox Sports.
